Aquaculture Congress 2024 Cargo CO2 Emissions
Nov 27, 2024As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we conducted a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment for the Aquaculture Congress 2024, hosted in Athens, Greece. Our preliminary estimate indicated emissions of 33 tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2eq). However, through a detailed analysis incorporating participant questionnaires from over 600 attendees we captured travel data along with the evaluation of electricity consumption of the Athens Megaron, waste management and catering, the final carbon footprint was refined to 35 tons of CO2eq.
This assessment forms a cornerstone of our strategy to move towards carbon-neutral events. By identifying key emission sources, we are better equipped to introduce targeted initiatives to minimize environmental impact. These include adopting renewable energy, optimizing waste management, and implementing carbon offset strategies, all of which are integral to our goal of making future congresses more sustainable.
